Truth and Truthfulness(TT) is the last book of Bernard Williams. In chapter5of this book, Williams concentrates on one of the virtues of truth, he calls, Sincerity. Normally, people consider Sincerity as'assertion of whom expresses his real belief, which Williams points out being far from enough for us to understand Sincerity. He himself regards this virtue as'trustworthiness in speech', and the disposition of Sincerity is centred on sustaining and developing relations with others that involve different kinds and degrees of trust. The way that Sincerity presents itself and the motive of Sincerity vary from different histories and cultures and also from different relations between people. As a result, it is necessary for us to investigate into particular histories and cultures so that we could find out other values in human life that structurally connect to the virtue of Sincerity. In that way we can construct the intrinsic value of it, which is a significant aim for Williams'genealogy. Besides, a long-lasting idea thinking that the disposition of Sincerity should be to following a set of rules, is objected by Williams. He also denies the idea that the moral consequence is different between lying and other styles of deceit, because it should be considered under specific relationships between people. This paper is first of all to translate the whole chapter5of TT. Based on this, the paper next introduces the contents of this chapter by making notes and explanations, and comments on certain questions, then briefly analyses the relation between this chapter and the whole book. This paper consists of five parts:explanatory notes for making clear of the form of this paper, chapter1to introduce Williams and his Truth and Truthfulness, chapter2to introduce the chapter5in TT and try to explain its position in the book, chapter3to make notes and explanations to the chapter5of TT, and ai last in supplement is the translation maieriai.
