All kinds of elements forming the construction of the personality are very important for the growing up of individuals. The senior middle school phase is an important period for the development of students’body and mind, and in this period, the students also can be faced up with difficult tasks about learning. The personality characteristics of the senior middle school students not only influence their mind healthy development directly, but also their performances in the learning behavior and it can even determine the students’fates in the social process. So it make great sense to study on the elements of personality and their functions which can affect the senior middle school students’mind healthy and their performance in the learning behavior.In this study we try to do some research on the elements of senior middle school students’ personality from the angles of the personality characteristics and their mental functions. The research focus on three aspects, including locus of control, emotional stability and study motive. Through questionnaire survey on two hundreds and sixteen students from a key middle school of Shijiazhuang and analysis of the collected data after that, we draw conclusions as follows:1. There are some significant differences among the scores in the scales of Locus of control, emotional stability, study motive and its dimensionalities2. There are some significant positive correlations among the scores in the scales of Locus of control, emotional stability, study motive and its dimensionalities.3. Locus of control and emotional stability can be seen as the predictive variables of study motive.4. Locus of control can affect study motive through emotional stability, and emotional stability plays as an intermediary role between locus of control and study motive.This research is conduced to the educator’s understanding about the senior middle school students from a new aspect that what kinds of personality characteristics can have an effect on the students’study motive, thereby helping educators teach the senior middle school students better and meanwhile promoting their healthy development of body and mind.
