With the constantly development of imperial examination study in recent years, local orregional study have become a focus, especially the studies of imperial examination aboutPrefecture, zhou and County have become a tendency, and which have gained enormousattentions in historical field. Shandong province have a long history and a striking tradition ofcultural education, which have played important role in the development history of Chinesecultural education. Although Yanzhou Prefecture, as one of Shandong’s Prefectures in Ming andQing dynasties, manifested some gaps when compared to the southern Prefectures, its imperialexamination took some place in the whole Prefectures of Shandong province and displayed itsown specialty for superior geographic location, prosperous economy and deep or advancedculture background. Jinshi, as a group of “shi”, which gained special attention for their highcultural cultivations. While jinshi in YanzhouPrefecture showed their particularties. Therefore,the essay choosed jinshi of Yanzhou in Ming and Qing period as a research object.In the first part of this essay have a concise sketch of the origins of jinshi and the generalsituations of imperial examination of Shandong in Ming and Qing dynasties, to pick out thesurvey of development of imperial examination in Yanzhou Prefecture. Then have a countingand analysis of the numbers of jinshi in Shandong during Ming and Qing periods, according totime and space order(the regestri restrict), and concluded the feature of its distribution, on theone hand, in a long time its numbers presented a big change range and its distribution wasunbalanced. On the other hand, bulk of imperial examination families gradually appeared in thistime with widely support from the society, which is extreme apparent in Confucius hometownQufu.The unbalanced distribution wasn’t an accident, but it was formed through various factorsworked together. It is related to social politics, the advantages and disadvantages of fixedgeographic location and economical conditions, also relating to the numbers of academies ofclassical learning in every Zhou and County and the atmosphere of culture and imperialexamination, if government to strongly advercate and establish schools and academies ofclassical learning there, this area tended to keep a successive first place in imperial examinationand showed a flourishing phenomenon in talents. The last part of this essay lists the politicalachievements of some famous jinshi, and concludes their political styles or contributions to theirhometown, in order to deeply grasp their role in the development of a society.
