Urbanization enhances the development of industrialization,causing soil erosion. As a result, the paddy field environment for thesurvival of Shanghai folk songs has been severely damaged. Peoplesang folk songs together to comfort the soul when farming in the field.However, now the way of singing the folk song has also graduallydisappeared. It is worthwhile for us to consider how to protect theendangered status of Shanghai folk songs and how to resolve theconflicts and contradictions between the non-material culturalheritages, originated in the agricultural era and represented byShanghai folk songs, and contemporary urban industrial civilization.This thesis intends to analyze Shanghai Folk Songs from theperspective of the protection of the non-material cultural heritages inthe urbanization process.The first chapter plays an emphasis on the ontology research ofShanghai folk songs. The origination, type, distribution, heritage, the artof the language of Shanghai folk songs as well as their relation with riceculture are analyzed to make a historical introduction and explore thenature of Shanghai folk songs. The purpose of this chapter is tointroduce the importance of Shanghai folk songs.In the second chapter, the endangered status of Shanghai folksongs in the context of the city and the causes of this status areexplored. Then, the discussion is carried out in the following aspects andangles: Shanghai Folk Songs and the cultural diversity of the city, thecombination of the intangible cultural heritage and urban construction,"Garden City" building theory and the construction of new cities in theforeign countries. That urban construction should focus on ecologicalenvironment and construction of garden city is an effective way toretrieve Shanghai folk songs’ living environment. In the last chapter, the author further explores the protectionstrategy of Shanghai folk songs. The author put forwards that theprotection of Shanghai folk songs, including the protection of theintangible culture must rely on the leading force of the government andthe government should perfect the protecting system. The importanceof integration the social forces is also introduced through the cases andthis newborn social force should be fully explored and applied toprotect Shanghai folk songs. Taking that shanghai folk songs belongs tothe expansion projects of Wu songs protection, the author thinks thatthe key is to restore the ecological field in the Wu cultural area andsuggests that a Yangtze River Delta protection base of Wu Song as wellas an eco-museum of Wu Song should be built.The significance of this thesis is that the protection of Shanghai Folksongs, the protection of citys intangible cultural heritage during theurbanization process and urban cultural construction are explored,offering certain reference value to the systemic and integrateprotection of the Shanghai Folk songs and shedding some light on howto combine the protection of intangible culture and urban constructionwithout the cultural fragment protection. The author expects thatthrough her exploration and try,more people can be attracted to joinin the protection work of Shanghai Folk songs and intangible culture inthe cities and make efforts together to protect the precious fortune ourancestors left with us.
