The Record of Folk Custom is a slang dictionary of Gu Zhangsi, who is theliterati of Jiangsu Taicang in Qing Dynasty．There are about1,000slang words in thisbook, it not only provide us the value corpus for the folk culture, but also forlinguistic and economic study by the authors study and research． This paper focuseson the vocabulary as the research object which from The Record of Folk Custom, inorder to reveal the life and folk custom’s style of Wu people． This book also has theown characteristics in compiling dictionaries which good for morden dictionaries’compilation．This paper studies Gu Zhangsi and his book——The Record of Folk Custom asdeep as possible． It can divide into six chapters．The first chapter is exordium, introducing the slang dictionaries and theircharacteristics in Ming and Qing Dynasties． The second chapter introduces theauthor, including Gu Zhangsi’ life, family relations and friendship． The third chapterintroduces this book, including its background, version and contents． The fourthchapter mainly discusses the book’s folk vocabulary firstly, that make us know thesocial folk style． Then it discusses the book’s compiling features． The fifth chapteris about the book’s cultural values, such as folk custom and dialect linguistics． Thesixth chapter probes the book’s shortcomings, like the writing forms of words, thesequence of words, the examples of words, the interpretation of words．...
