Initiated from the first specialized class in music education in1986, andofficially establishing its Music Education Department in2005, the MusicInstitute at Nanjing University of the Arts has evolved into a systematicorganization for music education during the last two decades. Up until today,the Music Education Department has set up a definite training goal, built up acomplete curriculum and training pattern, and now features experimentalcourses by reasonably making use of its teaching resources. Practice is beingcontinued and further improvements and developments are to be expected. Bymeans of extensive literature study and investigation, the author studies thecurriculum and features of teaching from the aspects of the emergence andevolvement of the Department.Nowadays, the development of music education has gradually setmulticultural music education as the main trend. The music educationdepartment therefore awaits further reformations and improvements. Byassessing the curriculum setup and teaching, the author aims to propose somethoughts and suggestions to the future development of the Music EducationDepartment at Nanjing University of the Arts.
