In late Qing dynasty, while stone inscription and calligraphy were well correlated, standardcursive revived. In addition, excavated ancient calligraphy works for instance bamboo orwooden slips in Han and Jin dynasties, or Dunhuang manuscripts, was another powerfulimpetus of the renaissance of standard cursive. Inspired by excavated ancient calligraphyworks, Shen Zengzhi, Wang Shitang, Wang Quchang and other calligraphers had made a greatachievement in standard cursive creation. Through an analysis upon modern calligraphers’thought and style of their works, and a comparison to ancient standard cursive works, thepresent article tries to clarify that excavated ancient calligraphy works have exerted a greatimpact upon standard cursive creation in modern times.
