Zhu Junsheng had studied the chinese characters and words comprehensively under the Liushu theory in his Shuowen Tongxun Dingsheng, which is a typical work in the history of Liushu theory studying and reflects Zhu Junsheng’s viewpoint on linguistics. In this dissertation, we will summarize and judge his Liushu viewpoints through this book and his other linguistic works. And we will find a proper position in Chinese philological history, which will help us describe and summarize the Liushu theory in the Qing dynasty. The dissertation is divided into eight parts:Part one, the introduction. In this part we introduced the reason why we choose this issue, the current study situation, approaches adopted, the version of the book, and Shuowen Tongxun Dingsheng and the writer Zhu Junsheng.Chapter one:study on Zhu Junsheng’s viewpoint of Pictograph and Deictograph. Zhu considered that Pictograph’character is made according to the shape and Dectograph’s shape is created basied on character. Zhu revised the structure types of Pictograph and Deictograph analyzed in Shuowen Jiezi.Chapter two:study on Zhu Junsheng’s viewpoint of Syssemantograph. Zhu considered Syssemantograph’s meaning is closely related to its semantic symbol. Therefore, Zhu revised the structural types of some Syssemantograph, and analyzed the characters without explanation in Shuowen Jiezi. Besides, he noted the phonetic function of the direct-component of some Syssemantograph.Chapter three:study on Zhu Junsheng’s viewpoint of Phonogram. Zhu considered that, to most Phonogram, the pictographic symbol relates to its meaning and the phonetic symbol relates to its sound. However, to some Phonogram, the phonetic symbol also has phonetic function. In the process of studying phonetic function of phonetic symbol, Zhu stated the "Xiesheng Cengji", and studied the phonetic change and word-formation based on phonetic change.Chapter Four:study on Zhu Junsheng’s viewpoint of Jianshu phenomenons. Zhu Junsheng had made judgment on everydirect-component’ function in the ideographic process of each character, and divided them into four tupes:pictograph symbols, deictic symbols, semantic symbols and phonetic symbols. Zhu Junsheng summarized that these direct-components’combinations methods has4classes,11kinds. His arguments has a great effection on modern Chinese characters’structure studying. In fact, Zhu Junsheng also argued that most characters were belongs to Zhuanzhu and Loangraph.Chapter five:study on Zhu Junsheng’s viewpoint of Zhuanzhu. Zhu classified the previous viewpoints of Zhuanzhu into two groups and six categories, and made judgments on them respectively. After commenting Xushen’s definition of Zhuanzhu, he redefined it and considered semantic extension as Zhuanzhu. After that, Zhu summarized the phonemes of semantic extension.Chapter six:study on Zhu Junsheng’s viewpoint of Loangraph. Zhu redefined the notion of Loangraph, considered borrowed graphs as the main part of it, he also admitted some loangraphs without orthograph. He then summarized the basic characteristics of borrowed meaning, and argued "Sanyuan","Siti", and "Bayong" of Loangraph.Chapter seven:summary on Zhu Junsheng’s viewpoint of Liushu. It concludes both the achievements and inadequacies. Zhu Junsheng accepted the "Siti-Eryong’ viewpoint, and he put the loangraph after the Zhuanzhu, which not fit the development of Chinese writing.
