The theme of later love novels of Bunin, love and death, has long been brought into focus by the researchers for it manifests the author’s life long exploration and summarization of the meaning of love and life. As an excellent stylist, Bunin subtly includes the question where love is into his novel. In regard of this, the current study, grounded in relevant theories on semiotics and narratology, aims to specifically analyze the narrators and the narrative structures exhibited in his later love novels in the hope of exploring Bunin’s beliefs on love and production. The introduction section presents a review of previous studies and their findings about Bunin as well as the perspective of the current research. The second chapter explores the narrator of Bunin’s novel, presenting detailed examination of the role of the first person narration and the second person narration. The third chapter mainly deals with the narrative structure in Bunin’s novels. Having consulted Barthes’ narration layering and Greimas’ deep grammar theory, the current study analyzes the basic referential means, marking structures and the deep structures of the work in his two novels of Luxia and Lonely Fall. Based on this, chapter four discusses Bunin’s view on love, giving a detailed illustration of the love view and underlying meaning implied in Bunin’s works. It is found that his novels about love are full of thinking on the temporality and eternity of love as well as on the physical lust and loving needs. It is the temporality of love that contributes to its eternity. The swiftness of life usually illustrates the eternity of love. The concluding part summarizes the study.
