The Boxer Rebellion "spell" In The Study

The Boxer Rebellion broke out in the late19th early20th century, in northern China, a major event that shocked the world, It was a patriotic national movement when the Chinese people directly confronted the imperialist aggressive joint army.110years have passed, though the historians have made many advancements in the study of the Movement, they also experienced many twists and turns. Previous studies focused on origin, political slogans and other issues of the Boxer Rebellion because of the ideological and political atmosphere. Few authors discuss specially why thousands of people became insane with the Boxer and why many superstitions were so prevalent. This paper attempts to study the spells of the Boxer, the means of spreading the spells, the taboos of the Boxers using the spells and the measures taken in order to maintain the persistent effectiveness of magic power from the spells.The first chapter describes the ideological sources of the Boxer Rebellion spells. Generally there are three sources:First, the Taoist Talisman; second, the mantra of Buddhism and Taoism; Third, Confucian reverence of the gods. The second chapter describes the spells and the Boxer Rebellion, focusing on witchcraft and the fall spirit possession; Jietie, spells and invulnerability; attitudes from all walks of life on the spells of the Boxer Rebellion. The third chapter describes the taboos of using the spells and the measures taken in order to maintain the persistent effectiveness of magic power from the spells. In zhe end describes the historical inspiration from the Boxer and the shadow of it has never really gone although110years has passed. History proves once again that narrow, backward and national ideas can not confront the advanced modern science and technology. We appreciate the boxers patriotism and their courage against the aggression. But we must resolutely oppose the proliferation of this kind of superstition, with ignorant "deities, spells" against foreign advanced science and technology. Now we are learning to use the scientific developmental concept to build a harmonious socialist society so we must create an atmosphere to advocate science and knowledge, arming our minds with Scientific spirit and scientific knowledge, so that patriotism has the wings of rationalism.
