Masses of fundamental concepts and theories on syntax, semantics and cognitive linguistics are utilized in this dissertation to probe into the characteristic of the verb before "Guo lai"and "Guo qu", and the characteristics of semantic and syntax. Based on the "asymmetric" theory, we also compare "Guo lai" with "Guo qu" from semantics, and explain the differences between "Guo lai"and "Guo qu" by using the theory of "cognitive scene"This dissertation includes five chapters.In chapter one, the introduction consists in the significance of the research, reviews, the background of related theories and the approach of analyzing, and the explanation of the corpora’s origin.Chapter two examines the semantic of "Guo laf"and "Guo qu". First, we classify the verb of "V Guo lai"and "V Guo qu", and then classify the semantic of "Guo lai"and "Guo qu" from different cognitive domain.Chapter three studies the syntax characteristics of "Guo lai"and "Guo qu". Based on the semantic semantic classes, we study more deeply about the semantic of "Guo lai"and "Guo qu" by analyzing syntax characteristics.Chapter four does the research by comparing "Guo lai"with "Guo qu". First compare the semantic of "Guo lai"with "Guo qu" by using "asymmetric" theory. Then analyse the main differences between "Guo lai"with "Guo qu" by using "cognitive scene" theory, from the perspective of the relationship between elements activated by cognitive domain and semantic.The last part is the conclusion, summarizes the main ideas of thesis, and points out some further topics to be discussed.
