Suk Josef is a well-known Czechic composer for the20thcentury. He made greatcontributions to the development of Czechic music. He is one of the most importantcomposers after BedoichSmetana and Dvorak. Suk is a transitional figure in thecourse of Czechic music. He opened the way and helped Czechic music to be wellreceived all over European concerts and made Czechic music world known.Suk’s creations are base on the traditions but absorbed advanced ideas andtechnologies of the20thcentury European music. His works are models of a time.Suk is not only a composer but also a performer and an educator. Those experiencesshow his extraordinary talent and his enthusiasm for the development of music.This is also what the paper about.The clue of this paper is the composer’s long road of music creation with analysisof his various works. The main idea is to tell how Suk combined Czechic nationalmusic with modern techniques and his great contributions to the development ofCzechic national music and the modernization of Czechic music.There are three chapters. The first chapter is a detailed introduction of Suk’s lifeexperience, according to different social roles he played. As a student, Suk lived andstudied with his father when he was a child, then he went to Prague Music College,after that he studied with Dvorchak. No doubt that those learning experience laid afoundation to Suk’s later success.As a performer, Suk’s style is very national. About four thousands performance heand his Quartet Society played throughout Europe and the works they performedare all Czechic. The Czechic style is well accepted all over the whole Europe bytheir excellent performance. Therefore, Suk made no little impact on the spread ofCzechic music.As an educator, Suk came back to his old school Prague Music College where hetrained many famous composers. These students he taught are of different nationsand colors and their achievements show that Suk is a wonderful educator. The lastpart od this chapter divided Suk’s creation into different kind and make detailedanalysis of Suk’s works and their characteristics.The second chapter is the analysis of Suk’s early small chamber musicworks.”Fantasy polonaises” is chosen to be the example to explain the connotationof the Suk’s early small works.The third chapter is the study og symphony “Prague” to tell the change of Suk’sstyle and technology in his late works.The last part is a summarization that Suk inherited Czechic national music, and atthe sme time, develop a new way of Czech’s20thcentury music. And he is one ofthe most important composers in Czechic musical history.
