Uzbek, as the first largest nation in Central Asia, has ever built three Khanatesincluding Bukhara, Khiva, and Kokand in her history, and long history and splendidculture of her is worthy to be researched deeply by every scholar focusing on CentralAsia. The study of Uzbek’s traditional social organizations and social structure is thebasic discipline with important academic value and practical significance. Researchesin the west are mostly concerned with history, culture and economic changesrespectively, thus this thesis has academic value to some extent from the perspectiveof disciplinary study.At the most beginning, the history of Uzbek is introduced briefly and thesocio-economic and cultural patterns in different period of history are analyzed basedon the theory which believes production capability determines production relations,providing evidences for the changes of social organization. Secondly, Uzbek’s tribes,unions of tribes, and mahalla social organization are described as complete as possiblein order to explore the reason of the forming of mahalla in Uzbek. Based on this, acomparative study of Uzbek and other nations in Central Asia is carried out todiscover the characteristic of geographical group forces and family structure, trying tofind the inherent relationship between mahalla social organization and geographicalgroup and regionalism. This thesis focuses on the influences which mahalla andgeographical group exert on the current Uzbek society, thus also has some practicalsignificance in some degree.
