After the Cold War, the largest developed country--United States and the largestdeveloping country—China have always been a topic of concern. The studies of onecountry to another country cognitive strategy attract many scholars. This essay mainlywrites about New York Times and Washington Post reports to China during2001to2011through quantitative analysis. In order to solve a question: How did the US printmedia report change towards China? In addition, explore the causes and impact of thischange.Though the official website of the New York Times and Washington Post, I collectthe reports to China during January12001to December302011and set the sampleinto the standard form though questions, such as writing style, article genres, areastendency, and evaluation towards the Chinese government. The analysis shows, there are objective cognition, positive cognition and negativecognition in these two media reports to China. Among them, it is mainly negativecognition and there are inconsistencies. Think about the environment, there areinconsistencies in US policy, on the one hand, to guard against China, on the otherhand, to cooperate with China. Positive coverage promotes the engagement strategyand negative reports give the containment strategy. China and US media shouldproceed from the overall and enhance the health and stable Sino-US relations.
