John Foster Dulles (1888-1959) is the United States Secretary of Eisenhower administration. The times he lived was during the Cold War struggle, because of his strong anti-communist, Many people described him as a "cold warriors", and he was against by many people in socialist country, but he was an important person if we want to research America diplomacy strategy. By the reason of history, the research about it in China was not deeply in a long period, after the reform and opening up, some results had been achieved, but some questions are still need to be answered deeply. The paper attempts to research Asian strategy of Dulles, discusses his strategy thoughts and his Asian content, and to provide enlightenment in America Asian policy.Dulles is the earlier statesman in America to realize the importance of Asia. His attitude about Asia is a key in the Cold War had been confirmed in early days during Eisenhower’s administration, it had been a policy to contain communist not only in Europe but also in Asia. Although the Cold War had been ended since 1991,Cold War thought has not disappeared from America diplomatic strategy. Now there are some voice that America will return to Asia, how to deal with these conditions is necessary to China, so further study about Dulles’Asian strategy has epochal character and necessity. This article emphasis on Dulles’Asian strategy which is an important part in Dulles’ whole Cold War strategy.At present the research about Dulles mainly focus on his experience, diplomatic ideas and specific approaches in diplomacy, so this paper will absorb these achievements, put Dulles’diplomacy strategy into a special room that was Asia, and rely on specific historical facts as the basis and carriers, to analyze Dulles how to building up his Asian strategy.The first part of this paper mainly introduces Dulles’diplomacy thoughts by his growing experience and how the experience did influenced him. Dulles mostly embodied his basic diplomatic thoughts in the peace philosophy and peaceful revolution theory which formed when he kept thinking about the problem of war and peace for a long time. His basic diplomatic thoughts came from his long period practice, and were mainly influenced by the religious tradition from the family, his religions belief, American traditional spirits, as well as the university education for philosophy and law. All of these influenced his Asia content deeply. As far as him concerned, he thought Asia has some characteristics, the first was Asian historic, the second was Asian complexity, the third was Asian integrity. In addition to these characteristics, Dulles had considered the dilemma which America facing in Asia.The second part focuses on Dulles’ Asian strategy, including non-military strategy and military strategy. Non-military strategy comprises peaceful change and liberation, and military strategy would carry out in three ways, massive retaliation, brinkmanship and collective security system. It is worth noting that ideological struggle had existed in Dulles’ Asian strategy as his world strategy from beginning to the end, it was one of his starting point in conceiving all kinds of policies and strategies. He believed that America’s final goal in global was win in thought and political, so it required the methods of struggle mainly is political rather than military character.The third part summarized Dulles’ Asian strategy in implementation and the results, analyses the characteristics of the strategy and its impact. The strategy has these characteristics, adventure, contradiction and dual containment; these characteristics were the footnote by the reason of failure in his strategy to a certain extent. It’s still need to alert is that although Dulles’ military strategy had been abandoned or change by the United States government, peaceful evolution is still hanging on Chinese top of head as a sword of Damocles. From many color revolutions happened in worldwide in recent years, we can predict that in quite a long period of history in future, peaceful evolution strategy will be used in the United States government and continue to play a role. With the arrival of the post-cold war period, the international situation is getting more and more complicated, and China as the world’s second largest economies, there must be more differences with the United States. Although the differences give way to economic cooperation in temporarily at present, China still needs to improve attention to peaceful evolution.Of course, the development of the society has its own rules, will not transfer in man’s will any time. The focus is still in the development of national comprehensive strength of growth in China, internal contradiction smooth dissolve will prevent external forces invasion fundamentally, the internal force including political, economic, cultural, military and other aspects of power.
