The relationship between Mongolia and Japan is one of the most importantbilateral ties in northeast Asia after the Cold War and also the one of the increasinglyhot bilateral ties. This paper’s study on the relationship between Mongolia and Japanafter the Cold War will focus on the development of Mongolia-Japan relationshipbased on the comprehensive investigation of international relations in northeast Asiaafter the Cold War and the knowledge and analysis of development ofMongolia-Japan relationship in combination with materials collected.To be specific, this research mainly involves the following contents:To begin with, the analysis will focus on the foreign policies of Mongolia andJapan after the Cold War, mainly the changes of their foreign policies. Relevantintroduction and deep analysis of the specific contents of their foreign policies will beinvolved here. The brief introduction will start from review of foreign policies ofMongolia since its independence. And particular attention will be paid to Japan’s greatpower diplomacy, UN diplomacy and Asia diplomacy etc. and Mongolia’s equidistantand all-round diplomacy and the attention on the bilateral ties of them.Then, this paper introduces the corresponding factors promoted the developmentof the relationship between Mongolia and Japan after the cold war, mainly from theperspective of economy, politics and culture, by combining the changes inMongolian economy and politics with the progress in Mongolia-Japan relation as wellas the cooperation between Mongolia and Japan. As for political factors promotingMongolia-Japan relation, it is due to the fact that Mongolia need seek help frompowers according to their own situation. On the basis of the U.S.-Japan alliance, theMongolian tends to develop positive diplomatic relations with Japan who is close tothe United States, promote frequent mutual visit for political reason and exchange ofviews with Japan. In terms of economical factors promoting Mongolia-Japan relation,this paper will introduce the process and reality of the development of Mongolia-Japan economic relation since the1990s. As for the cultural factorspromoting Mongolia-Japan relation, focus will be on the process and reality of thedevelopment of the cultural exchange between Mongolia and Japan since theestablishment of their diplomatic ties. In the meantime, fair number of data and caseswill the used in this paper to illustrate the present situation of the development ofMongolia-Japan relationAs for the influence of Mongolia-Japan relation on northeast Asia, this paper willcompare Mongolia-Japan relation with China-Mongolia relation in the conclusion partand come up with several proposals for the future of Mongolia-Japan relation afterintroduction on the trend of Mongolia-Japan relation: to respect Mongolianindependence and initiative; to promote cultural exchange between the Mongolia andJapan.From the overall layout, detailed analysis and examples of this paper, byreviewing the history of Mongolia-Japan relation, combing the current situation ofMongolia-Japan relation and forecasting the future of their, this paper displays acomprehensive and in-depth research on the Mongolia-Japan relation. The concern ofthe Mongolia-Japan relation is of profound significance to the reasonableunderstanding of the general status of international relations in northeast Asia andbasic situation of political situation in northeast Asia. From the perspective ofMongolia-Japan relation, it can be more effective to analyze the regional politicaltrend in northeast Asia. As for China’s entire strategy of northeast Asia, thedevelopment and trend of China-Mongolia relation need to take the currentMongolia-Japan relation as reference, which is helpful to further improve China’sforeign policy to Mongolia and ease the situation that some nations tend to changeMongolia into a platform to restrict the rise of China and seek domination in northeastAsia where regional politics is quite unstable.
