Recently, with the enrollment of all colleges and universities, as well as thegradually growing group of college students, there are many problems for freshmenin adapting to the new environment. On one hand, they can not take care ofthemselves, and lack the learning power; on the other hand, they are not satisfiedwith their colleges as well as majors, and confused about their future. These issueshave aroused widespread concern of the school and the whole society.Higher education is aimed at promoting students’ comprehensive quality. Thus,as an important part of the whole college education, freshmen education is of greatimportance and significance, because it has a huge influence on students’ college life, and even their whole life. However, current freshmen education generally remains inthe traditional models, focused only on systems, and norms, while they pay littleattention to the aspects such as psychological adjustment, learning guides, careerplanning, and so on. In other words, the current freshmen education does notconform to keep pace with the Times Development for innovation. In my view, freshmen education has a large space for development, especially in the content andform. As a result, it is of great theoretical and practical significance for us to have anin-depth study on freshmen education. In this paper, social work values and theoretical basis are used for reference, combined with professional methods of group work to help the freshmen learn toknow themselves and adjust their physical and mental condition through the Group technique of group work as well as the targeted training, student-oriented, andlinking theory with practice so as to promote the freshmen’s adaptive ability on abroader level. In this way, freshmen can quickly complete the role change from highschool to university so as to adapt to the new environment and requirements of theuniversity. In order to have a more comprehensive and objective view of the freshmen’sadaptive situation, this study has made a questionnaire survey of300freshmen whoare randomly selected in B University. Thus, from their college entrance adaptivesituation, we collect the information reflecting the overall adaption of the freshmen.According to the series of problems existing in freshmen adaption, we design somegroup projects and develop growth group for freshmen adaption. Through theassessment of group process as well as outcome, we can conclude that: it is verysuitable for colleges and universities to adopt this professional approach----groupwork, because it can make up for the inadequacy of the entrance education forfreshmen effectively.
