| Nowadays, communication becomes more and more important in modern times. In ancient times, people in the village met each other frequently, so they had more cultural communication face to face than today. With the development of society, the face-to-face communication in the community, especially in the city, becomes less. It is the rapid development of China society and the fast urbanization that speed up the population mobility. Just because of that, in part of Chinese city, there are many immigrant communities, which is more complex than ordinary ones. How the people who live in immigrant community have cultural communication with each other? In China, this kind of topic have a few research, but not as rich as west countries. As part of social stability, the community stability is very important to both society and individual. This paper will do some research about the cultural communication in immigrant community.Chengjian New Village (hereinafter referred to briefly as New Village) is an immigrant community in Sanhe, Hebei Province. There are more than10thousand people in it. The people came from a lot of places of China, such as Sichuan, Heilongjiang, Jilin, Liaoning, Henan, Jiangsu, Hunan etc. Every place has its own regional culture, so in New Village, there are several kinds of regional cultures. In addition, Sanhe is between Beijing and Tianjin, both of which are developed cities and have typical urban cultures, and under the influence of them. But Sanhe is a small city, and its original culture is rural culture. According to above analysis, one conclusion can be draw:the culture in New Village is pluralism, including several regional cultures, urban culture and rural culture. Before field investigation, the subject is divided into three categories:urban dweller, immigration and the native. The sample size is37gathering by using the simple random sampling. During the survey, participant observation and interview are used. The main target of this paper is the intercultural communication model in New Village. Acculturation, cultural identity, community integration, the social network, obstacles to intercultural communication will be considered. The survey finds that the acculturation is not as high as expected; the community integration is very low, the urban population and the immigration don’t take New Village as their home and plan to leave in the future, while the native people is marginalized in New Village; instead of communicating with the people from different areas, people incline to have deeper talk with their families, relatives and follow-townsman, so "small group" formed; the main obstacles are "uncertainty" and "anxiety" to different regional cultures. The findings of the study indicate the structure of the cultural communication model is loose on the whole, but closed in the "small group".This paper also discusses why the model of cultural communication is like that, and gives some interpretation in three perspectives:communication, sociology and phenomenology. |
