Looking from economic cost, cultural value, the coverage of providing for the aged, as well as social efficiency and so on, Elderly support by the society at home is an important way for our country at present, it also has very vital practical significance to resolve the problem of providing for the elderly people of our country in future.The paper using the empirical study method, selects the Nanjing Xuanwu area to take the object of study, embarks from the elderly people’s demand of elderly support by the society at home, understanding home retirement service supplies present situation. From investigating and understanding the three aspects including the main body of service supply, the way of service supply and the content of service supply, to resolve the problems existing in supply and demand process of elderly support by the society at home, the paper also proposed the countermeasure to construct the system.Form investigating and analyzing the elderly people’s demand at the Nanjing Xuanwu area, we find out that the elderly people’s demand concentrates in three aspects:life caring, health caring and spiritual consolation. Elderly people’s ideological concept had decided that they have different understanding on elderly support by the society at home, the cultural level, and the ability of take care of oneself; the income condition and so on individual characteristic has also affected their concrete demand. The price, the service level, the service convenient degree and so on are the primary factor when the elderly people consider to choose elderly support by the society at home, at the same time, we also discovered that quite part of elderly people can accept the market operation pattern, but is not paying great attention on the character of the organization which providing service, This indicated that we should provide demand of different level for the elderly people from different angle.In the service supply aspect of elderly support by the society at home, the government was still the main body which the service provided, the investment way that takes care of everything by the government in past change to guide by the government, to complete the plan to attract social investment, has established the area government, the street, the social tripartite joint venture investment mechanism, and depended on the civil society organization to carry out the specialized service. In the way of service supply aspect, adopts the government to pay, the community cooperation, the organization of elderly support by society at home entity operation means that provides service for the elderly people. In the content and form of service aspect, insisted the idea of providing diverse service, provides the personalized service in view of the elderly people’s demand according to the different personnel and the family actual situation.The investigation also showed that there already have many problems in the development of elderly support by society at home, such as the range of service is narrow, the development of market mechanism is lag, and the responsibility of supplies main body is ambiguous and so on. But the basic question is the industrial production, the specialization and the socialized degree of elderly support by society at home is also very low.Finally, this article proposes the countermeasure to construct the service system from the disparity which exists from the elderly people’s demand and the service supply. On the one hand, we should advance the marketability reform positively, to enhance the quality and efficiency of providing for the elderly people at home by society service. On the other hand, we should use various positive factor and integrate multi-service resources to make all kinds of service provider undertake the different responsibility respectively, provide the comprehensive service according to different level need of the elderly people.
