From the angle of historical and current analysis, this article analyzed the historical developmentand social function of youth organizations in Macao. In the sense of history, the development of youthorganizations in Macao can be divided into the stages of before and after the handover of sovereigntyover Macau. Before the handover, the youth organizations evolved through three phases:religious-driven organization, charitable organization and the risen of new youth organizations. Andfrom the aspect of development driven power, the historical evolvement and social function of Macaoyouth organizations was analyzed in this stage. After the handover, youth organizations experiencedthe prosperous development. By the experience of the author’s interviews in Macao and the help of《Macao Youth》sponsored by New Chinese YouthAssociation, the author conducted thoroughanalysis on the development of youth organizations in Macao. The reasons for the rapid developmentof youth organizations in Macao can be summarized as: the fast growth of Macao’s economy,sponsorship of Macao government, the characteristic electoral system in Macao and the inburst ofMainland Chinese.Also through the analysis toward《Macao Youth》, the social function of youth organizations canbe concluded as educational function and political participation function. The educational functionwas to foster the spirit of love to the motherland, love to Macao and social responsibility. The politicalparticipation function was to help the youth involve in the political development of Macao. Youthorganizations in Macao has unconscious but long lasting influence on the society of Macao, and someof the experience should be learnt by the mainland China.
