Ideological and political education refers to society or social groups who use the certain ideas, political views, moral standards to impose the impact on its members in a planned and organized way, make them to form the social practice activities according with morality demanded by certain society. In a certain sense, ideological and political education is a kind of values education.The vocational college students, who grew up in a transforming society,have a high degree of opening, active thoughts, the thirst for knowledge and the individual consciousness; they are full of explore spirit and pay attention to self-perception and better explore spirit. However, at the same time, they have immature ideological cognition, great fluctuation of emotion; they are influenced by external factors easily, their psychological conflict and contradiction happen frequently, and their ability to judge independent thinking and rational needs to improve. In addition, they don’t have seen much of life, and they are still lack of correct and comprehensive understanding about themselves, others and social phenomenon.They are usually confused and anxious in the face of various problems and impact. Every vocational college student has its own unique physical characteristics, but the ideological and political education work existing usually emphasizes general education and collective consciousness, and emphasizes the leading role of teacher, it would be difficult to grasp the students’individual characteristics, satisfy students’inner needs,especially, it sometimes ignores and suppress the students’individuality, all of this will lead ideological and political education work to become a kind of activity which the students have to learn but don’t want to learn. Therefore, in order to enhance the scientifity, foresight, pertinence, interesting and actual effect of ideological and political education work, it is necessary to make use of principles and methods of the occupational psychological counselling.This paper analyzes the present situation of higher vocational college students’ ideological and political education. It not noly affirms its achievements, but also analyzes its deficiency. It surveyes the psychological characteristics of higher vocational college students in intelligence development, emotion expression, thinking form, self consciousness and socialization, and discusses the characteristics of professional counseling of higher vocational college students and its advantage in content, method, personnel and effectiveness. Especially, the paper discusses the fusion of professional psychological counseling and ideological and political work, and emphasizes that the use of relevant approach of professional psychological counseling not only facilitates to the realization of the task of political education work, but also can improve its actual effect. The reason lies that the two work share a lot in common, and professional psychological counselling fits in with the actual needs of higher vocational college students’ideological and political education also. Meanwhile, higher vocational students’professional psychological counselling combines the concrete measures of the ideological and political education everywhere. For example, professional basic literacy training sticks to four combination, i.e. career planning combines with the ideal faith education, coaching career-oriented counselling trains the spirit of loveing of their work, employment psychological counselling implements the credit consciousness and legal consciousness, psychological consultation penetrates world outlook, the outlook on life and values of the education.Faced with contemporary vocational students, which grew up in a transforming society and live in a society full of risk of employment pressure, the workers who are engaged in the ideological and political education work must learn and become familiar with principles and methods of professional psychological counselling, then put it into their daily education and management work, understand, care and respect the students with the right attitude, and follow the students’psychological rule of occurrence, development and change, help the students to establish the right career view and hold full psychological preparation and professional quality in severe employment situation. Only in this way can we really realize the task of ideological and political education work and play the lifeline role of it.
