The Progressive Movement in the United States occurred in the late19th century andearly20th century, the second industrial revolution have been ended at that time, theUnited States has completed the industrialization, urbanization and modernization. In thetremendous change, the social thinking, political system, economic structure and culturalcharacteristics of America were suffering a huge challenge, the old political, economic andsocial order was no longer able to adapt to the requirements of the development. This wasthe result of the Progressive Movement in the American history an unprecedented socialreform movement of the deep historical roots. Progressive people transcended partisan towork together for a common goal, and jointly promoted the progress of society. Throughaccess to relevant information, we can know that the Progressive Movement affected thediplomatic philosophy, diplomatic system and diplomatic practice of America to a certainextent in many ways, either directly or indirectly. It also influenced the foreign policydesign and foreign policy decisions of U.S..We collect a large number of books and papers of scholars about the ProgressiveMovement in domestic and foreign countries, we figure out the whole process of theProgressive Movement, and interpret the foreign policy of the United States. Based onthese work, we analyze the contact of Progressive Movement and American ForeignPolicy, and how did the movement affect the American diplomatic legacy. Finally, weinterpret how the domestic social movements affected its foreign policy in the generalpatterns and ways, and diplomatic legacies from the Progressive Movement. In view of thefew studies of domestic scholars on this issue, this paper hopes to combing relevantproblems through a large number of cases, and strive to enrich the research system andhelp people to recognize the relationship between domestic social movements and foreignpolicy.
