Research On Rural Empty Nesters’ Social Support

In the background of aging crossing the globe, as a populous country, the aging problem ofChina is increasingly prominent, and leads to comprehensive social attention. In recent years,the older’ empty nesting phenomenon has been one of the distinguishing features of aginggroup. Compared to urban areas, rural empty nesters’ life status facing with more contradictionsand problems is being solved urgently.The paper chose T village in HeZe city of Shandong province as the research object,obtained relevant materials by questionnaire survey. By conducting the questionnaire surveytowards220empty nesters’ social support status of T village, dealing the data with spss13.0,we have realized rural empty nesters’ four basic situation involved in economic support, lifecare, spiritual support and satisfaction of the overall social support. On this basis, we will findthe characteristics of their social support, look for the influential factors of their social support,and think about how to improve their social support status. This paper consists of five chapters:The first chapter is the introduction. Based on the problem that this paper tried to study,it firstly introduced the study’s origin, meaning and purpose, which provided a basis for thespread of this paper. The existing research results in the academic community about theolders‘social support were briefly reviewed and combed, on which basis, the concept of ruralempty nesters and social support had been defined and analyzed relevantly.The second chapter is the design and method of the study. According to the presentsituation of rural empty nesters’ social support, this paper put forward the research hypotheses.It briefly introduced the survey method, the collection and analysis of the survey data,conceptual operationalization and variable settings, etc. Finally, it also pointed out the reasonof the selection of the study site and its basic information.The third chapter is the analysis of T village empty nesters’ social support and itscharacters, this is the main body part of this paper. According to the situation of their socialsupport, it mainly conducted a detailed analysis towards their own economic support, life care,spiritual support as well as their general social support satisfaction four aspects. It is resultedthat the social support of T village empty nesters had the following four features: the older’economic support from children was prominent; according to blood and geographical relations，the obtained life care of the older is more; the older’ spiritual support situation wasnot optimistic; their general social support satisfaction was high.The fourth chapter is the analysis of influential factors of T village empty nesters’ socialsupport. Age, education, having children or not and spousal relationship, the four variables,had a significant effect on their social support. Chapter5is the conclusion and thinking.Through the above analysis, the author concluded the following four conclusions: the greaterthe age is the more poor the empty nesters’ social support; the higher level of education, thebetter their social support; the social support of empty nesters having children is much betterthan those without children; the more harmonious spousal relationship is, the better theirsocial support.At last, this paper discussed the relationship between community care and rural emptynesters’ social support. The author thought that taking community care service would meettheir demand of daily life care and spiritual life. In other words, community care had apositive meaning to rural empty nesters’ social support.
