Study Of The Current Situation And Strategy Of Collective Cultural And Physical Activities In Rural Areas During Urbanization

The federal government planned to encourage the cultural development of rural areas. The cultural and gymnastic societies on Daji Street of Caidian District in Wuhan emerged and developed very rapidly. The cultural and gymnastic activities of the residents are active and various, particularly those in the new-built peasant communities. This thesis compares the conditions of cultural and gymnastic societies on Daji Street before and after2003. Before2003, the main cultural and gymnastic activities included folk performances, movie shows, villages’performances and martial arts. After2003, the new communities’performances and economic performances added, and these are the focuses of the thesis. I carried on fieldwork and detailed study on the dancing on the square. The reasons to promote the rapid development of cultural and gymnastic societies on Daji Street are various:the development of economy, the instructions from the local government, centralized residents, cultural history and the conformity of resources and so forth. The development of the residents’culture is mainly promoted by the folk cultural societies. I suggest the government invest more, provide supervision, instruction, cope with the relation between cultural development and economic development, the relation between inheriting and developing tradition, in order to accelerate the cultural flourish and development in rural areas.
