With the development of economy, a variety of talents play more and more important roles in this society. It is natural that collages should provide a platform for talent cultivation.Now, many scholars hold that collages should serve for the students for they are the main body. However, educational management is the main mechanism in student work in most collages. Student union, an organization benefiting students’ self-development and self-service, has an obscure legal status, which leads to the confusion of its responsibility and the unclear legal relations among the unions. This is an obstacle for student union itself and the talents train. In addition, students’lawful rights are infringed in a great degree.Student unions, an indispensable part in collages, are founded for self-management, self-service and self-education. But as times goes, the function, and structure and development trends are changes gradually. An organization composed by students is affected by bureaucracy. Besides, the non-profit is replaced the mixture of interests and utilitarian.In terms of the study of student union, on one hand, scholars focus on function problems and the development of the organization. They ignore the fundament of the problems:the legal status of student union.This essay analyses the function of student unions with focus on the legal problems and reasons. Then comparing with students unions in foreign countries, point out the legal status of the student unions in order to put up feasible suggestions for the standardization of student unions.
