In the transition period of reform, economic mode, political system and social structures are undergoing profound changes. Contradictions between new and old systems, modern and traditional ideas and various interest groups has become more and more intense, which consequently result in the group incidents, with the increasing number, enlarging scale and more intense conflict. It not only threaten people’s lives and property, but also cause the confusion of social order, affect the stability and the modernization construction. For that reason, studying on the group incidents of China is necessary and meaningful.In order to deal the group incidents correctly, the premise and the fundamental step is to understand it and specify the cause of the group incidents. Only with understanding of the characters, developing trends and causes of the group incidents, we can find out the effective and correct solutions pertinently. Only on the basis of recognizing the mechanism of group incidents, we can prevent and control this kind of social problems radically, resolving the social contradictions, keeping the stability and safeguarding the smoothness of modernization construction.Based on the scientific definition of the group incidents, with the western social development theory and Chinese social reality, this paper analysis the reason of group incidents generally, from the social background, political system, economical form and group mental mode. With different social interests and various causes of formation, group contradictions will result in group conflicts and group incidents. At last, through the western social risk management and public crisis management theory, we post the solution of preventing and resolving the group incidents.
