Ever since the reform and opening up of China, rural workers have emerged andgradually bulged into a large group, whose future have a far-reaching influence on thedevelopment direction and level of the whole society as well as the economy and politics ofChina, and thus the research on rural workers’ problems has been an significant subject ofsociology in recent years,of which the role rural workers play in the urbanization has arousepeople’s extensive concern. As it is pointed out in the western theories, urbanization is a vitalaspect of modernization. The urbanization rate of our country had surpassed50%in2011forthe first time while that of developed countries had already reached73%in1989, whichshowed we still have a long way to go by comparison. On the other hand, various problemshave been exposed in the development of big cities. The research of how to promote thepopulation migrate to small and medium-sized city is necessary. China is a country with alarge agricultural population, with rural workers being a special group between farmers andcitizens, which makes the research on the immigration desire to cities, particularly small andmedium-sized cities extremely meaningful. Against such a background, the author makes aprimary analysis on the rural workers’ desire of migration to cities from the perspective ofsociology, in view of the inevitable trend of current urbanization in nowadays.This essay unfolds on the basis of non-structure interviews, elaborating the causes ofrural workers’ desire of migration to cities, at last,the author holds that the most two crucialfactors influencing rural workers’ migration desire are housing and work, In the end, theauthor puts forward reasonable and feasible proposals with regard to the process ofurbanization.There are altogether five parts in this essay:the introduction part whichilluminates the background, significance, methods of the research, the first part introduces theconcepts, theories and researches related with this essay; the second part gives a descriptionof the general conditions of the research location and the rural workers in addition tomigration desire; the third part makes a detailed analysis on the causes of rural workers’ desireof migration to cities; and the last part deals with in-depth discussion and makes proposals onthe basis of the preceding parts,...
