Establishment And Self Development Of Adolescent Ego Identity Dilemma Of Case Studies

Taking the establishment of self identity as the main theme, this study aims todiscuss the problems and difficulties faced by the adolescents. By adopting qualitativeresearch method, the author participated and observed daily lives of adolescents froma Grade Two class of a key school in Xicheng district, Beijing, and then did somein-depth interviews with ten students, five groups of parents and eight teachers. Theauthor thought that the formation of adolescents self identity requires two factors: oneis the individual “self” integrating functions, and the other is the effective interactionbetween individual and social cultural environment.After collating and analyzing the interview materials, the author found nowadaysthat adolescents are facing two aspects of difficulties. Firstly, under the undesirableeducational environment, the social pressure is so enormous that the adolescents’self-integration function seemed to be weakening. Secondly, the adolescents are lackof peer groups, as well as effective communication approaches with social andcultural environment since that social welfare service policies for adolescents aremissing.Based on the theory and practice of data analysis, the author proposes some policyadvocacy and advices. Firstly, the government needs to actively promote a reform ofeducational system in order to provide a healthy educational environment foradolescents. Secondly, the government should formulate and improve adolescents’welfare policy, such as to construct a professional service team of social workers, toconstruct community service centers and other adolescents’ entertainmentinfrastructure, to support the development of NGO in financial terms and so on.
