This paper mainly discussed the structural change issue of the population inMacau from China and other countries in the Middle and Late Qing Dynasty(1800-1911). Firstly, this paper examined the quantity change of total populationand the proportion between Chinese and foreigners in Macau, analyzed the factorsinfluencing the population change of Macau before the Opium War. Secondly,based on the population census data carried out by the Portuguese MacauGovernment from1867to1910, the paper expounded the developing change of thepopulation in Macau after the Opium War (1842-1911) thoroughly andsystematically and indicated the reason and the impact influencing the populationin Macau after the Opium War. Finally, though investigating and exploring thestructural change between Chinese and foreigners of Macau in the Middle andLater Qing Dynasty, this paper claimed the population status of Macau in theMiddle and Later Qing Dynasty was the product of special politic, economic andsociety, confirmed the change of Macau’s population, especially were the Chinesewho promoted the development of Macau society and profoundly influenced thepolitic, economic, society and culture of Macau.
