With the development of China, international students’ education in Chinagrows like mushrooms shoots after a spring rain. More and more internationalstudents are rushing into China to learn Chinese and its culture. The study is basedon the theory of the Education, Psychology and International Communication. Theinterviews are carried out from different perspectives to explore the main factors thatcontribute the adjustment process of international students from central Asiancountries in China socially and individually. It takes the following factors ofinternational students from central Asian countries into the considerations, likenatural environment, social life, language barrier, and social interaction, andacademic situation, psychological pressure among16international students fromKazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan.The paper includes four parts. The first part is the introduction. The researcherexplains the background, the purpose, the significance of the study and themethodology. The second part is the literature review. The researcher reviews thedevelopment of the cross-cultural adaptation both home and abroad respectively andanalyses the advantage and shortage of the former research. The third part is thecharacteristics and the present state of international students from central Asiancountries in China. Through the interviews, the researcher reports the demographicinformation of international students from central Asian countries in China, the stateof their social life adaptation and the availability of social support. The fourth partmainly talks about intercultural adaptation problems of international students fromcentral Asian countries in China and the main factors contributing the adjustmentprocess of international students from central Asian countries in China socially andindividually. It also analyses the difficulties that international students from centralAsian countries meet in their everyday social life. Then the researcher gives thespecific suggestions to deal with these problems.The study findings are as following. Firstly, individual factors differently impactthe adaptation of international students from central Asian countries in China. Thevariables of gender,age, staying length in Xinjiang, the level of their Chinese,financial sources, education level, the time length of studying Chinese and the circleof their social interaction deeply impact the adjustment process of internationalstudents from central Asian countries in Xinjiang. Secondly, their participation inChinese life also greatly influences the adjustment process of international students from central Asian countries in Xinjiang. International students from central Asiancountries participate in Chinese life, but these activities are static contact, liketraveling in China, participation in Chinese cultural courses. They do not have accessto campus activities held by Chinese students. Above have great impact on theiradjustment process. Thirdly, international students from central Asian countries inXinjiang have difficulty involving in Chinese social life. Their living environment,language barrier, lack of communication mechanism, Chinese social styles and lackof awareness of cross-cultural communication of international students from centralAsian countries are the main factors leading to their adjustment of involving Chineselife. Finally, according to conclusion above, the researcher puts forward to thesuggestion on teaching, management of international students education andcross-intercultural communication and discusses the further research in the future.
