In2003, the Ministry of Education formally promulgated the" Physical andHealth Curriculum Standards (Experimental) for Ordinary High School". In the newCurriculum Standards, promoting selective teaching for high school in an all-roundway is an important part of the physical and health curriculum reform. In September,2004, our country began to carry it out. Xinjiang didn’t start the implementation ofthe new curriculum standards until September,2008. Then Urumqi started theimplementation of the new curriculum. As a new and fashionable sport, aerobics ispopular among students. Therefore, aerobics is officially incorporated in the ordinaryhigh school sports optional class. In this paper, the method of literature review,interview, questionnaire, logic analysis are used to analyze the present gymnasticsteaching situation in Urumqi ordinary high school. A conclusion can be drawn that:(1) The situation of optional sports course in Urumqi ordinary high school is notsatisfying, and the project scope is not enough to meet the needs of the students. Thequality and effect of teaching are influenced by the lack of class.(2) The time and ways of choosing optional sports course in Urumqi ordinaryhigh school vary a lot. Only the way of organization of class is similar, but themanagement mechanism is not perfect.(3) All the aerobics teachers in Urumqi are females, mostly young. Thus the scaleis unbalanced. They all have Bachelor’s degree and good professional qualities.Younger teachers have lower title of technical post and poorer scientific researchability.(4) The aerobics facilities of the schools which offer sports optional courses areinstalled in relatively good ones, which can basically meet the need of teaching. Butthe facilities are not perfect, and teachers are required to prepare other auxiliaryteaching equipment themselves, thus decreasing the effect of teaching.(5) In Urumqi, most of the students who choose calisthenics selective course aregirls, and the gender gap is obvious. The good motivation and behavior tendencyplay a positive role in promoting the development of high school aerobicscurriculum.(6) Aerobics curriculums offered in Urumqi ordinary high school are arbitraryand not unified and scientific because they are opened according to the teachers’ ability, students’ interest as well as the school’s basic conditions. And the contents ofthe classes are mostly decided by teachers themselves, thus it is random, lackingunity and scientificalness.(7) Reasonable and scientific standard for aerobics skill evaluation system hasnot been established yet, and the application of aerobic teaching theory of thestudents is ignored in the assessment, failing to examine and evaluate students’learning effect thoroughly. Teachers should pay more attention to the training ofstudents’ self evaluation ability because of students’ lack of self evaluation.
