Education is the foundation to plan our future. Teachers are the main force in thepromotion of education, and the key to education reform. Their development determinesthe level of development and quality of education in China to a certain extent. In orderto create a professional teacher and enhance the quality of students’, we should paymore attention to the professional development of teachers. Research on teachers’professional development is not only the focus of educational research, but also is thebasic proposition of effective teacher development pathway. The in-depth study ofteachers’ professional development’s status, pathways and effects needs to be carried outimmediately.Teaching portfolio as one of the main ways to promote the teacher professionaldevelopment has shown its advantages. Teachers, as the soul of teaching, can design theteaching plan and objectives systematically by creating teaching portfolio. Through thisseries of plans, they can apply the reflect on the teaching to the future teaching, torealize cycle development. It is noteworthy that performance alone is not as good as thecounterparts, in the teachers’ professional development. The creation of the teachingportfolio emphasizes the professional cooperation of peer teachers. It not only canincrease the fun of growing together, but also can promote the development of theteaching profession by their sharing and discussion.This study, the object of which are four teachers in the school R, used case studiesof qualitative research methods. It collected a large number of first-hand information bythe methods of field observations and depth interviews. Bottom-up analysis was used toanalyze material. It coded the raw materials, extracted the relevant concepts, and thenconnect and generalize them.Teaching portfolio’ content is the real scenarios which teachers experienced. Itpursue professional development of teachers through the awareness of teachers. Thispaper took the plan, implementing, evaluation and reflection of teaching as axis, linkedup the whole process of teaching portfolio, and showed the teachers’ professionalgrowth process. It’s divided into four parts. The first part, is an overview, describes andanalyzes the background, basis, methods and validity of research. The second part isabout the development process of teaching portfolio. The third part is case studies, to explain the teaching portfolio’s role and problems in promoting teachers’ professional.The fourth part is the suggestion and prospects for the problems.We thought that: The creation of the teaching portfolio can help educators toexamine their own educational philosophy, navigate for young teachers, and help oldteachers to find teaching blind spot. The teaching portfolio is the best way of presentingteaching experience. The teaching videos, teaching stories and teaching reflection in theteaching files are the best presentation of teachers’ teaching experience. This isconsistent with the idea of narrative of educational narrative, the research on which isby the mode of teachers’ narrative. Teaching portfolios can promote the combination ofteaching and evaluation of teachers. There are analysis of the students’ needs in theclassroom, concentrated display of the teachers’ own achievements and descriptions andrecommendations of the peer educators in the teaching portfolios.
