As one of the most important part of tertiary education, the purpose of tertiary education is to foster the students with the ability of practical skills, spirit of team work and initiative. The level of their Emotional Quotient (EQ) has attracted many attentions in recent years. The concept that employment is decided by intelligence quotient while the promotion is decided by emotional quotient has been accepted by the most majority of companies. This illustrates that apart from professional skills and knowledge and physical health, magnificent personality, excellent character, and mental health are vital important as well for students. Therefore, it will be meaningful to discuss and seek student EQ education in Chinese tertiary school.The essay aims to analyze the issues of EQ education in the tertiary educational schools, and to probe relevant countermeasures. It begins with a brief review of the concepts of emotional education. It then examines the variously issues of EQ education in Chinese tertiary schools. Reasons for these situations are analyzed. Relevant theories are cited as underpinnings. Finally, suggestions and approaches for how to develop these kinds of education and also how to improve these situations are presented.The essay is organized as follows:First, relevant theories regarded with EQ education are presented, which prepare for the later research and discussion.The introduction the relevant concepts provides an overview of EQ education, which aims to provide a theory underpinning for following examination. It presents the concepts, contents and characteristics of EQ and EQ education, and introduces EQ education in Chinese tertiary educational schools. It compares and contrasts the difference between intelligence quotient education and EQ education, which clarifies what the EQ education would be like. As the characteristics of tertiary education, EQ education appeals to be essential in the tertiary education system.Second, the article discusses the situation of EQ education in the tertiary educational schools. It shows that the EQ education, to a large extent, has been ignored by the majority of schools. In other words, it appeals that the EQ education in these schools is not systematical consistent and constant. The subject of EQ education is often vague. The plan is usually unclear and incomprehensive.Third, the probable effective ways and approaches to improve and enhance EQ education in the tertiary educational schools are outlined in this part. It probes how to improve the EQ education in these schools. Suggestions are presented.The essay discusses EQ education from a new perspective, which focuses on the suggestions and methods that improve EQ education in the tertiary educational schools. It explains that EQ education should be paid the same attention as skills and knowledge education in order to improve the students’EQ. More importantly, it’s necessary to change some traditional or backward opinions, promote the EQ assessment system and develop the EQ education in diversity. The ways such as EQ education lectures and dormitory activities can be utilized to enhance EQ education, improve students’practical capabilities, and cultivate their excellent personalities.However, the essay still has limitations. The analysis of EQ education in Chinese tertiary educational schools may be not persuasive and representative. The approaches and suggestions to improve the EQ education in the schools may need to be further proved by more practices.
