Dewey is the famous philosopher, educator and pragmatism synthesizer, who is alsoknown as the most influential educator in America and even in the world in 20thcentury.Dewey attaches importance to the development of moral education; his though of moraleducation has profound effect in America and even the whole world. Recently, we are in thekey period of reform and open and the social transformation, the increasingly lack of moralconsciousness of citizens’make the traditional moral education and education model face thechallenge of times, people have to re-examine the negative effects of the traditional moraleducation. Therefore, it is essential to reconstruct the new model of moral education to suit forthe development of modern society in our country, which can be based on the traditionalmoral education, and borrow the essence from Dewey’s moral education theory objectivelyand rationally.The thesis is established in a series of education works written by Dewey, conducting thedepth analysis on its moral education thought by using literature analysis, comparativeanalysis and historical analysis. This study is trying to explore the inspiration of Dewey’smoral education thought for university students’moral education in the new periodNowadays, we are in the key period of reform and open and the social transformation,we have the reason to believe that applying world outlook and methodology of Marxism toanalysis and study Dewey’s moral education thought scientifically and objectively, whichcould have the significant inspiration and reference meaning for us to respond and solve theexisting problems of present moral education in school correctly.
