College moral education takes the task to cultivate the qualified and reliable successors to the cause of socialism, which is of great significance. At present, the moral status of the college students is general fine, but there are still some problems, the main reason of which is that there still exist some weaknesses and troubles in the practice of college moral education. In order to solve the problems above, we need to refer to the theories and practice of moral education in foreign countries. Based on the philosophy of experimentalism, Dewey proposed his moral education theory, which includes that moral education should aim at shaping the personality and developing the ability to adapt to society, should be a part of school education, together with other subjects, and way of the modes of moral education should be discussion, inquiry and social activities. Dewey’s moral education theory has a profound influence in theory and practice. Based on his theory, the American college moral education is recessive, indirect and permeable. On the basis of Dewey’s theory and practice, the author analyzes the problems of moral status and problems of college education in China. Then the author constructs a mode of effective college moral education from the following aspects, namely, innovating moral education, combining with other subjects, strengthening the daily ideological education and college student management.
