As China is a country with the countryside population dominant, science teaching in therural primary schools has an important influence on the whole science level of the civil in thefuture.Many problems still remains:How to implement the science curriculum in HuantaiCounty rural primary schools at present? How was the quality status of science teachers?Which matters still exist in the science teaching in rural areas? It’s urgent to recognize all theproblems during the improvement of science education in Huantai County rural primaryschools.Questionnaire method and expert interviewing were adopted in this study. The situationof science teaching was investigated from different angles of leaders, teachers, parents, andstudents by analysis of questionnaire and interviewing to 8 headmasters of primary schools.Personal information of primary school teachers in rural areas, equipment and utilization ofteaching resources, teaching and evaluation of science course, retraining of teachers, andstudents’studies of science course were involved in the questionnaires.The paper was divided into three parts. In the first part, the stems of the thesis wereintroduced, the development of science education in primary school was elaborated aboutdomestic and abroad, and then the studying significance and main methods of this researchproject were presented. In the second part, the situation of science teaching in primary schoolwas analyzed from personal information of primary school teachers, teaching of sciencecourse, retraining of teachers, equipment and utilization of teaching resources, extracurricularpractice activities which students participated in, students’studies of science course, andinterviewing to headmasters of primary schools. And then a series of questions werediscovered in science teaching in the rural primary schools based on the summarization andrethinking of the situation of science teaching in Huantai County. In the third part, accordingto the result and analysis of the investigation, five suggestions were put forward to promotethe development of science teaching. Firstly, raise awareness of the importance of scienceeducation. Secondly, enhance the professional knowledge, improve the experimental skill,and carry out a variety of remote training. Thirdly, organize students to participate in variousscientific extracurricular practices actively. Fourthly, strengthen the utilization rate ofteaching facilities. Lastly, we should reform of the existing evaluation methods of science curriculum.The purpose of this paper is to reflect the current status of science education in China’srural primary schools by analysis on the situation of rural primary school in Huantai County.The inadequacies in the science teaching could be found out through research and could beimproved In the future for adaptation to the need of development and curriculum reform. So agood foundation for training high-quality talent would be built up by improving teachingquality of science education in rural primary schools.
