The professional development of teacher for gifted and talented children has become an important focus to improve the quality of gifted and talented education, cultivate elite and enhance the ability of international competitiveness in the developed countries such as US and UK. In China, the G and T (Gifted and Talented) education can be traced back to later1970s. The main focus at time was on students’ development and their achievement, but not on teachers. In fact, there are a lot of problem within the teachers who are in G and T education field. For examples, the problems are teacher shortage, insufficient backup teachers, unprofessional training for G and T teachers and teaching was based on individual’s experiences. All of these problems limited the development of quality in G and T education.First of all, establishing the professional standards for teachers is an important approach to promote teachers’professional level. Besides, it can establish teachers’professional status from the view of policies or standards. On the other hand, the education departments at all level can work together to help teachers to learn and to evaluate teachers in order to develop a positive mechanism of circulation.The goal of this research is to study and analyze the Professional Standards for G and T teachers in US and UK. Based on that, the basic structure and the elements of the standards are given and discussed. Lastly, I try to establish our own structure and framework of the Teacher Professional Standards for our country.The present status and issues of teachers who are teachers of G and T education are discussed based on analysis of the survey to the teachers at this filed in Beijing;I analyzed the features of three main standards in both US and UK.1compared the difference and similarities of the content in the different standards for gifted and talented education. I gave some suggestions for the educational institutions and governments within the field of Gifted and Talented education. Followed by that, I emphasized the importance and necessity of establishing the teachers’professional standards for gifted and talented education. Lastly followed by the principles for the establishment of the standard, I proposed the framework and contents of the teacher professional standards.
