Nowadays English is an important tool in international communication and for getting all kinds of information all around the world. With the social development, an increasing number of integrated talents in English language are badly in need. Therefore, cultivating the ability to use English in communication is a primary goal of English teaching/learning in middle school. Textbook therefore is the core of all the process of English language education. The purpose of textbook evaluation is to know the strengths and weaknesses of the textbooks, to see whether it meets the teaching needs, and to offer guidelines for textbooks selection and to make better use of the textbooks.This research chooses the set of English textbooks as the object, called "Go for it!" Based on the overview of former researches, two research methods—the text analyzing and semi-structured interview is adopted in the three aspects of this study: being scientific, being interesting, and reflecting the education in morality and values from the perspective of topic selection. Through the objective and subjective analysis, the characteristics and shortcomings of "Go for it!" will be summed up, in order to help teachers have a better understanding and make better use of "Go for it!" and integrate materials flexibly in teaching course and methods. At last, combing the two methods, some advice are put forward on how to improve English and how to use the textbooks much better.I hope this thesis will give useful suggestions about the developing and editing of the textbook to improve English language teaching in junior middle school.
