In recent years, Thailand’s educational system has not only been committed to the development of college and middle school Chinese teaching, it also encourages children to learn Chinese. Currently more and more so, young Thai students are studying Chinese making children’s Chinese language instruction methods gradually attract the attention of Chinese language teaching professionals. In the process of learning Chinese, teaching textbooks occupy a pivotal position. Nowadays Chinese teaching textbooks for Thai primary schools are few and the material construction is still in its infancy. A wide variety of textbooks are used by the schools, yet existing textbooks are not suitable for the actual needs of Thai primary Chinese language education, targeted teaching textbooks are also rather lacking. In addition, I wish to analyze the problems as a Thai citizen from the Thai perspective:are teaching textbooks currently used by topic arrangement meeting student’s needs? Can various sets of teaching textbooks topic selection spark the interest of the Thai primary school students?This thesis focuses on Thai children’s Chinese teaching textbooks topic selection, and investigates textbooks in the topic selection, topic distribution and students interest in the topics. The author through the collection of information, reference of others research, compiles various topics that appear in the textbooks "Experience Chinese-Elementary Version (Tiyan Hanyu Xiaoxueban)","Chinese (Hanyu)" and "Introductory Chinese (Hanyurumen)", then conceives and designs a topic classification prototype template for Thailand primary school students. The research object is to survey the teaching topics and topics types that students are really interested in amongst Thailand Peizhigongxue school students. At the same time, this thesis also explores and analyzes the favorite learning topics amongst different genders and learners of different ethnic background. Finally, the views and suggestions for Thai primary student Chinese teaching material topic choice making are also put forward. I hope this research can provide some useful insights for Thai children’s textbooks topics selection and compilation and stimulate students’ interest in learning Chinese.
