Master's thesis is an important index to measure the quality of postgraduate training.It not only reflects the academic level and research ability of the postgraduate,but also reflects the development and research trend of the discipline.As the most important part of the thesis writing,the thesis topic selection makes a macro grasp of problem consciousness,theoretical construction and research methods,which affects the research level and research value.This paper takes the thesis topics of master's degree students in higher education major of the H University from 2005 to 2019 as samples,and analyzes the research topics,levels and methods of the thesis through literature research,content analysis and mathematical statistics.This thesis summarizes the advantages,existing problems and the factors that influence the selection orientation of theses for master's degree in higher education of H University.The research conclusions are as follows:In terms of research topics,master's degree thesis in higher education of H University focus on university management research,university education and teaching research and comparative higher education research,and they pay less attention to the basic theory research and moral education research of higher education;In terms of research level,master's degree thesis in higher education of the H University tend to choose the national level and system level,they pay little attention to individual level and curriculum level;As for the methods,literature research,comparative research and investigation research are the most frequently used methods,and the largest number of dissertation using 2-3 research methods.The research shows that the topic selection of dissertation has many advantages,such as covering many aspects of higher education,solving practical problems of higher education,having stable and centralized research fields,having unique research vision and using comprehensive application of multi-disciplinary methods.However,there are some limitations,such as lack of micro research,lack of theoretical research,poor balance of research subjects and lack of standardization of research methods.Combined with the literature content,this study finds that the research direction and professional guidance of the tutor,the development status and research trend of the discipline,the training mode and curriculum of the school,the theoretical basis and research ability of the master and other factors will have an impact on the topic selection orientation of the thesis.According to the conclusion of the study,this study puts forward suggestions from three aspects,that is,the training unit needs to design courses reasonably and pays attention to the guidance of master's degree thesis;improve the training system and standardize the selection process.In the aspect of mentors,they need to strengthen the team construction and form a guiding force;pay attention to topic selection guidance and improve the sense of responsibility.The master should pay attention to the accumulation of theory and improve the ability of practice;correct the attitude of research and cultivate the ability of selecting topics.
