Recent years, in central China, with the enrollment expansion of postgraduateswhose research area is sports humanities and sociology and other causes, the numberof their thesis papers multiplied, but the quality has declined, so it is necessary toresearch on and analyze the overall state of those papers. Using literature research,logical analysis, content analysis, expert interviews and mathematical statisticalmethod, this thesis paper studies247thesis papers in central China written during2001to2009by analyzing the overall condition, topic, research object, researchmethod, research nature, citation and the published papers by the authors and pointsout the main problems and put s forward relevant countermeasures. The results showthat:1. The topics of the thesis papers involve mass sports, the sports industry,schools sports, sports culture, competitive sports, sports management, sportscurriculum design and other seven areas. Their objects of study have the followingcharacteristics: more studies have been taken on the masses, students and teachers,few studies on adolescents, the elderly and athletes; more on sports venues, fitnessclub and sporting events; few on rural sports, the sports industry and sports news.2. The research methods of the thesis papers are mainly the study of literature,investigation, logical analysis, mathematical statistics method. Its main features are:According to the research needs, the paper uses a main method and a combination of avariety of research methods which reflect the methodological innovation; combinesqualitative and quantitative research methods to improve the scientific level; attachesgreat importance to questionnaire and the paper’s empirical value. The study is basedon basic research mostly, applied research the less, and generalization research theleast.3. The average number of citation of sports humanities and sociologypostgraduate’s thesis papers in central China is59.87which has significantdifferences with foreign citation standards; t academic journals and academic worksare frequently cited; Citation languages are mainly Chinese, English and Japanese; thecited literature are mostly cited2to7years after its publication which accords withthe best citation time “2to5years after publication”; more and more postgraduatespay attention to the scientificity, accuracy and authority of the cited literature.4. Among the746papers written by the247authors of studied thesis paper52%had not been labeled CN,38%labeled, and10%were published on core journals.
