The task-based approach, as an extension of the communicative approach, wasfirst clearly proposed by the English New Curriculum Standards in the year2001. Itencouraged the students to percept, experience, practice, participate and cooperate inthe class so as to realize the goals of tasks and enjoy success.Since then the task-based language teaching (TBLT) method became popularacross the country. Consequently, this method was put into use in many schools inShandong Province.The thesis strived to discover the advantages in the course of the application ofTBLT in Shandong province and exert these strong points to the utmost. On the otherhand, it kept a watchful eye on the shortages of the process and tried to find severalways to make amends for these problems in the language teaching in future.The author selected participants from the junior middle schools in Binzhou,Shandong province. TBLT had been implemented in these schools since EnglishCurriculum New Standards were issued in2001. On the basis of the aim of thisresearch, the author applied three ways, consisting of questionnaire, interview andclass observation.According to the research,there were many advantages of implementing TBLTin junior middle schools in Shandong province. Firstly, the classroom atmospherebecame more active. Secondly, students were able to build new knowledge on theirown and improved communicative ability a lot. But every coin had two sides. Therewere lots of problems to be solved in the process of implementing TBLT, such as evaluation systems, the language scope of teachers, students’ bad learning habits andbackward teaching devices.In order to have a better effect on implementing TBLT in the near future,teachers have to broaden their scope of knowledge and enhance the ability ofdesigning and sequencing tasks. Students need to be more active and learn toconstruct knowledge by themselves. Government should provide support foreducation from every aspect.
