At the dawn of the21stcentury, the United States is one of the most culturallypluralistic nations of the world, and its population is continuing to diversify. ChineseAmericans are the main components of Asian Americans. New-second generation ofChinese Americans is famous for their academic success. The research on ChineseAmerican academic achievement mainly concentrates in the late20thcentury, butmost scholars analyzed this phenomenon from cultural capital and social structuraltheory aspects separately. Chinese American scholar Zhou Min integrates cultural andsocial factors together, analyzes the success factors on Chinese American academicperformance. Based on the collected material and data, the author plans to explain thisphenomenon from the favorable formal educational system in the United States, apartfrom the positive family and ethnic environment.In the first part of the paper, the author theoretically compares the difference ofold new-second generation and new-second generation. And the bi-cultural familyenvironment has positively influenced Chinese American students. Then the authorexplains the favorable ethnic environment, including Chinese American daily network,Chinese supplementary system and Chinese communities in detail. Then the authoranalyzes the influence of favorable formal educational system on Chinese Americanstudents.In this paper, the author shows the educational background in which thenew-second generation Chinese American students achieve great academic success.Through the explanations from family environment, ethnic environment, and formaleducational system, the author tries to find the success factors of Chinese Americanstudents. Chinese American students are in two conflicting cultural environment,the study on factors for their academic success may shed some light on Chineseeducation.
