The development of the modern society makes more and more people have come to realize that with the economic globalization, the competition between countries becomes the competition between the educated, which is determined by the high-quality education that counts on the professional development of the teachers.Nowadays, for the sake of the teachers’as well as these schools’development, the in-school research is necessary and urgent to adapt to the new curriculum reform. The theoretical and foundational school-based teaching and research is quite complete and advanced after the review of the research works related to the field. As a high-school English teacher, it was acknowledged that it is necessary and useful to do some research on the practical research in school finding some problems which can make us reflect and make further development in the teachers’professional development.My thesis aims to accelerate the development of the teachers after analyzing the problems of in-school teaching and research activities. Showing the case study in Donghu high school in Yichang, Hubei province during Sep.2011to March.2012gives the experts and teachers who really want to enhance the teachers’ professional development some hints, exploring the teacher’s psychological states for us to do deeper research. I adopted the questionnaires, personal interviews, and the teaching research activities records to analyze the case study, only to find the potential advantages and disadvantages of the in-school teaching and research activities. In the future study, the case study will give us more space to reflect and provide schools various ways and effective models to follow.
