In senior English teaching, the textbooks can not satisfy students’ needs and reach the demanded standard of National Curriculum, for the content of the textbooks are renewed slowly, the students’English language level can not be improved. Considering the existing problems of the textbooks, the author of the thesis attempts to improve his teaching with English fables as supplementary teaching materials with the purpose to motivate students’English learning and to improve their communicative competence. Compared with the textbook, English fables have their special features, for instance, there are various interesting stories which contain plentiful amounts of new practical ideas that are closed to our life;they contain new words and expressions, Using English fables as materials can enhance the students’enthusiasm in learning English, enrich teaching resource, therefore develop the students’interest in learning English.This thesis is first to be presented the teaching problems in rural Middle school,the problems of students’English learning,the factors which influence students’Enlish learning,and the problems of using English textbook and so on.Based on improving students’interest in learning English and improving communicative competence, the author tries to use English fables as supplementary teaching materials, then to give a brief of the definition of the English fables, to review of the history of English fables,in which it also tells us the background of English fables studied in foreign countries and in China, on the basis of foreign language learning theories, such as theories of second language acquisition, constructivism and so on, in which provide the foundation of the thesis and mainly explain English fables aided in senior school English teaching, next the thesis shows us how to use English fables aided in the senior school, illustrates the characteristics of English fables and the principles of using English fables in senior school English teaching, and analyses the function of English fables; the methods of using English fables in English teaching. In order to prove the effective of the thesis’ theory, I made a teaching experiment in my school, first of all, through a survey I test Students’knowledge on English fables, then to prove it feasible to introduce English fables in English teaching,an planned experiment was introduced in English teaching by comparing two parallel classes,then to gain the true data through the contrast method.The result proves that the experiment is effective, at last the thesis draw a conclusion that the performance of the experimental class is better than the other parallel class, they become interest in English and can get the hang of the English language well.therefore,introducing English fables in English teaching can help students overcome psychological impediment and avoid learning anxiety,help to cultivate the students’interest in English,to enhance their English level and to create lively atmosphere in English class,...
