With the further demand of the market economy, civilian-run colleges around China have developed rapidly. However, due to the diversities of economy, politics and geographical environments, the educational provision system, institutional efficiency, hardware and software facilities of the civilian-run colleges are different from each other, which present intermingling of the good and the bad. As far as I am concerned, the progresses in developing school PE in these civilian-run colleges are dissimilar:the sporting codes and the system are not sound; the courses are not reasonable comparing to public colleges. And there are restrictions in holding sports. What’s more, the length of PE teaching is not enough and the faculty structure is irrational as most of them are only MS holders, with really few PE professors and low academic competence. The extra-curriculum sports are only for show as the school leaders don’t pay enough attention to the development of sports, the PE teachers are not professional enough and the students are lack of interests. To have a better understanding of the current situation of school PE in Guangdong privately-owned colleges and to provide the related departments with a basis and suggestions, this paper studies the 32 Guangdong privately-owned colleges which have been officially authorized to issue diplomas according to the varying degrees of the economy. The study has employed many approaches, such as questionnaire, literature review and case studies, to have an intensive research to the PE teaching, extracurricular sporting activities, PE faculty and the facilities of the stadiums. In this way, we can find out the problems or the advantages of the PE courses in the civilian-run colleges in Guangdong, and propose targeted advice to improve the quality of the PE courses in civilian-run colleges.Integrating the scholars’research and the statistics I gathered, I found that there are some problems in developing PE teaching in Guangdong civilian-run colleges:The sporting codes and the system are not sound. Most of the private colleges are lack of leaders in charge of the PE affairs and have no campus sports commission. Comparing to public colleges, the courses are not reasonable and there are restrictions in holding sports activities. Also, the length of PE teaching is not enough and the number of the students in a class is over. The PE courses can not be on equal footing on the same footing as other subjects. The faculty structure is irrational as most of them are only MS holders, with really few PE professors and low academic competence. The extra-curriculum sports are only for show as the school leaders don’t pay enough attention to the development of sports, the PE teachers are not professional enough and the students are lack of interests. Moreover, none of the civilian-run colleges has high-level sports team and only has average sports teams. But several school teams has improved the result and achieved outstanding performances.Regarding such situations, according to the requirements to the advanced talents of the socialist modernization of our country and the related laws and regulations issued by the State Council, combining relevant rules and the highlights of the documents of the Ministry of Education, the paper provides some tentative suggestions for the reference of policy-making:(1) Accelerating construction of legal system in privately-owned education; (2) Ameliorating system of management of school PE; (3) Beginning to reform in curriculum and teaching; (4) Accelerating construction and open up of stadium; (5) Speeding up construction of teams of teachers.
