Grass Root NGO Impact Research In Elementary Boarding Schools

NGOs have received a good reputation from various fields of societyfor its charity, including their great acts for the public good, helping thepoor and supporting people in need.In recent years, with the increasingnumber of various NGOs, and the widening fields of charity activities,NGO members have started stepping into remote border areas，formerrevolutionary base areas, poverty-stricken areas and areas inhabited byminority nationalities.Since2003, together with many NGOs, Ma Changbai is the leadingrole in this kind of charitable organization， supporting NongguanElementary School, a boarding school in Beijing village, Dahua county,Guangxi.Later,“Love-Dahua” Center of Nanning Yuncai Project startedtaking action to follow Ma’s path, helping the school. The school hasbeen greatly changed, through the hard work of these two NGOs for thelast decade.Firstly, the infrastructural facilities in the school have been upgraded,with a better educational environment for local school-aged children anddecreasing the dropout rate. Eating well and staying warm, without anyworries living in there, the students’ life in boarding school is completelydifferent. For all of these things, every student has grown a grateful heart.Secondly, changes in the school not only have inspired the teachers’enthusiasm toward their teaching, but also inspired them to make contactwith the outside, to exchange their thoughts with others, to learn new information in the field, and to improve their teaching skills.Thirdly, through the continuous charity activities by these two grassroot NGOs, the attitudes toward education among local students andparents have been gradually changed, and the awareness of theimportance toward education have gradually grown in their mind.By looking at the changes and developments happening inNongguan elementary school, the achievement of the charity activities byMa changbai and Yuncai Project is an undoubted success.This could be an exemplary case for today’s grass root NGOs tocommit to their beliefs in the field, meanwhile it could be a method to beconsidered and to appropriately adopt, improving the education andschool environment in remote border areas，former revolutionary baseareas,poverty-stricken areas and areas inhabited by minority nationalities.
