Reading is the foundation of working and learning, and reading activities is one of theimportant activities of life, so the embodiment of the reading activity is an indispensable partof reading activities. Reading behavior is the performance of the reader reflected from thephysical and psychological aspects in process of reading, and it is the means to realize readingactivity contents, purpose and results. So, for junior high school students, reading behaviorhave the important meaning for the improvement of the quality of reading.Reading is a kind of experience activities. If students have bad psychological state inreading, bad reading habits, and the induction of bad reading environment, students’ badreading would act as a block on the way of improving reading ability. First reading behaviorshould be defined as the performance of the reader reflected from the physical andpsychological aspects in process of reading, it is the means and ways to realize readingactivity contents, purpose and results, and briefly analyzes the influence factors of readingbehavior.In the part of the schools in Yantai, through the investigation of its present situation,questionnaire surveys and the poor panel, we have found that junior high school students’ badreading behavior have not only the characteristics of the students all over the country, but alsothe characteristics caused by the regional environment in Yantai. The specific performancesinclude naive reading psychological state, lacks of enthusiasm in classic, lost in the currentreading environment and serious tendency of skimming reading makes reading too utilitarian,skimming reading without thinking deeply ignores the reading quality, thus the reading effectswould be disappointing etc. Additionally the causes of these bad reading behavior are various,mainly because of the consequence of the interaction between internal and external factors,for example, the internal factors are caused mainly by the students’ intelligence and somenon-intellective defects, and the external factors are the influence from the school, family,society on student’s bad reading.Therefore, when we try to correct bad reading behavior, we must adjust measures to localconditions, and to personal differences, thus we can put forward effective strategies,especially in the aspects of cultivating the students’ habits and of correcting bad psychologicalstate, we should pay attention in the cultivation of the students’ reading habits from childhood and the healthy development of the reading psychology of students; In terms of the concepttransformation of teachers and parents, on the one hand, teachers should get effective readingguidance and parents should participate in their children’s reading and work as supervisors;On the other hand, the correction of bad reading behavior needs the optimization of socialreading environment, including the creation of the positive social atmosphere and publicopinions, strict examination in the book market and the regulation the book publicationsystem. It is necessary to point out the building of classic concepts. It means that teachers andstudents should have classic consciousness, learn from the classic, which will help studentsdevelop good reading behavior and provide a certain value for the improvement of thestudents’ reading abilities.This paper starts with the definition and the influence factors of the reading behavior,and through investigation and researches, demonstrates a part of junior high school students’bad reading behavior,in the city of Yantai, analyses the reasons according to the results ofinvestigation and puts forward the corresponding correct strategies. This paper aims toprovide valuable information to raise the level of the students’ reading, and to provide certainreference material for teaching of Chinese reading.
