Function is an important part of high school mathematics. As one method of function description, images are the visual carrier of function nature discovery and study, as well as the important tool to solve function-related issues. Study of Function Image contributes greatly developing students’ability to observe. Questions related function image can examine the students’ independent ability of research and explore. So it is a hot topic in the university entrance exam.Due to function itself abstraction, many problems still exist when students learn and solve function image problem. This study attempts to present the main problems which be found when students apply function image to solve the related-function problems after class one students of High School learn Compulsory Part1and4of function and provide some reference for teaching and learning.On the basis of literature analysis, the author prepared questionnaires and test volumes. Sampled262students from three different levels of schools in Sichuan Province, below main conclusions are summed up from the analyses about the current situation application of image for function problem solution by questionnaires and the main problems existing during function problem solution,l.Most students feel a certain degree of difficulty for function image drawing. And mapping methods is very unitary. The techniques and capabilities of image drawing still need to be improved.2. Although function image is deemed by90%students being of importance to learn function and contributing greatly for understanding and memory of function-related knowledge and nature, it is seldom used to learn or understand function, or think with drawing.3.The students’consciousness to apply the function of images on problem solution is relatively weak. More than90percent of the students account assistance and reliability of image to solve function’ problem, but nearly half of the students feel it is not easy to solve problems by image and seldom make a sketch to think the problem during function problem solution. Certain problems exist on expression of questions meaning by image drawing.4.From the results of students’solve different function image problems the nature of the problem, the nature of problem have a certain impact on their problem solution. Generally speaking, it would be better if there is no need to draw a image, whereas it will be worse. Main problem is that the poor connection between image and function transform the failure of image observation and nature grasp.Based on the results of the survey, teachers are strongly suggested to pay more attention to the cultivation of image mapping and distinguish ability,to the image applications, to the consciousness of problem solution by image.
