| In some developed cities and areas in China, the parents pay specialattention to their children’s English study. These days, the purpose ofEnglish learning switches from the test-oriented to theapplication-oriented. Some schools and language institutes are usingthe immersion English teaching to create a pure English learningenvironment for the students. In China, most of this immersion English isthe limited immersion English teaching. In this thesis, the author made asurvey among the students from Grade Five to Grade Six in aninternational school which implements the limited immersion EnglishTeaching. At the same time, two face-to-face interviews were madebetween the author and the students whose English level had greatlyimproved from the foreign-language level to thesecond-native-language level. After the three steps comparison andstudy, the author found that the teen-age students are possible toimprove their English to the second-native-language level with a certainconditions. This conditions at least composed by three areas. The firstarea is the inner power for learning English. The second is the studystrategy in the English class. The third is the English exposure after class.At the same time, the author found out that in the above mentionedthree areas in the immersion English teaching, there are three keyelements which might benefit the teen-age’s English learning. Thesethree key elements are: the motive force of “usefulness and interestâ€,relation between the new knowledge and current knowledge, as wellas the circle of “learn for use and learn from useâ€. |
